Haris is an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Georgetown University where he graduated with distinction on the Dean’s Honour List. He completed his BA-LL.B (Hons.) from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) where he also graduated with High Distinction as a merit scholar.

His primary areas of practice are tax, constitutional and commercial law.

He regularly appears in constitutional, tax and commercial matters before the High Courts. He has successfully appeared for and advised some of the largest groups and companies in Pakistan in major tax litigation and commercial and regulatory disputes. Recently he represented various multinational corporations in challenging the imposition of Super Tax inserted in the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 through Finance Act 2022. Moreover, he also successfully represented various holding companies in challenging the imposition of tax on intercorporate dividends.

Haris also routinely appears before lower courts as well as regulatory tribunals representing clients on various tax, commercial and service law matters.

During his time at the firm, Haris has also assisted the Senior Partner in representing clients before the Supreme Court in seminal constitutional matters. He assisted in representing the Chief Minister of Punjab and a leading political party in various constitutional law matters before the Supreme Court including the matter regarding the election of the Chief Minister of Punjab. He also assisted the Senior Partner in representing the Supreme Court Bar Association in a matter pertaining to the secrecy of ballot in senate elections before the Supreme Court.

As part of his advisory practice, he regularly advises domestic and foreign clients on corporate, commercial, tax and investment matters.

Umair Ahmad

Umair is an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Harvard Law School. He completed his BA-LL.B (Hons.) from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) where he majored in law and minored in political science, with high distinction.

Umair’s primary areas of practice are tax, constitutional and commercial law. He regularly appears in constitutional, tax and commercial matters before the High Courts and has successfully appeared for and advised some of the largest groups and companies in Pakistan in major tax litigation and commercial and regulatory disputes.

Umair also routinely appears before lower courts as well as regulatory tribunals representing clients on various tax, commercial and service law matters.

During his time at the firm, Umair has also assisted the Senior Partner in representing clients before the Supreme Court in seminal constitutional matters including relating to the dissolution of national and provincial assemblies and vote of no-confidence.

Asfandyar Khan

Asfandyar is an Associate Partner at the firm’s Islamabad office. Asfandyar graduated with a BA-LL.B. (Hons.), from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, where he received the National Management Foundation Gold Medal for topping his law cohort. Asfandyar was also selected as the sole recipient of the Podell Scholarship at the NYU School of Law, where he pursued an LL.M. focusing on securities law and capital markets.

At AJURIS, Asfandyar works on complex questions of constitutional and administrative law, while also contributing to the firm’s commercial disputes and tax practice. His assistance on landmark cases has been recognized by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (including on the successful challenge to the dissolution of the Parliament in April 2022), and by the Islamabad High Court (on the question of the constitutionality of certain prison rules applicable to Islamabad’s prisoners). He has also worked on High Court briefs involving sophisticated commercial transactions, such as the successful defense of the public procurement contracts pertaining to polycarbonate smart cards; the representation of a leading cellular telecom service provider in disputes pertaining to the allocation of telecom frequency spectrums; and the enforcement of arbitral awards won by working interest owners in the oil and gas industry. Asfandyar’s extensive litigation experience is relied upon by the firm’s clients for a variety of disputes, focusing on areas as diverse as competition law, FIDIC contracts, and food industry regulation.

Asfandyar frequently appears before the High Courts and specialized tribunals to represent the firm’s corporate clients. Despite his focus on litigation, he maintains a keen interest in academia, demonstrated by his appointments to adjunct faculty positions at law schools in Islamabad, and his publications on various legal issues.

Adeel Wahid

Adeel’s practice focuses on constitutional, commercial and complex civil litigation. He has represented clients from the telecom, textile, construction and pharmaceutical industries. He is an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan, and is licensed to practice in the State of New York, regularly arguing before the High Courts and specialized tribunals in Pakistan. 

Previously, Adeel worked as an associate at a New York law firm, Arnold & Porter, in the general litigation department. He represented clients under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and has assisted clients in subpoena compliance. He was also part of the team representing a pharmaceutical company in a multi-district litigation. In Pakistan, he has worked at another premier law firm based in Islamabad, assisting in constitutional and commercial litigation. 

Adeel holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, and a BSc in Economics and Political Science from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). 

He has been a part Bahria University’s visiting faculty of law, teaching, among other courses, company law in Pakistan. Some of Adeel’s thoughts on law have been published in Dawn, The News International and Courting the Law.
