Muhammad Jamal Farooq is an associate at AJURIS Islamabad Office. After having graduated from University of London, Jamal successfully completed the Bar-at-Law/LLM at the University of Law, leading to him being called to the Bar in England and Wales in 2022. During this course, Jamal also obtained membership with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators after performing exceptionally well in the International Arbitration (LLM) module conducted by the University of Law, UK.

Immediately after having completing his Bar Course, Jamal started practice as an associate at a renowned law firm in Islamabad, independently dealing with medical, service, constitutional, rent, family, arbitration and civil matters. One notable case he provided major assistance on was on the matter regarding the independent investigation of the death of Mr. Arshad Sharif before the Supreme Court in 2023. Jamal has also recently been gazetted as an accredited mediator and can be appointed as such by Courts in Islamabad. After having joined the firm in 2024, Jamal regularly renders his assistance in diverse range of matters including constitutional, civil, taxation and arbitration matters pending before the High Court and Lower Courts.

Ahmad Zeeshan

Ahmad Zeeshan is an associate at the AJURIS Islamabad office. He joined the firm in August 2023, and is an advocate of the lower courts of Pakistan. Ahmad earned his BA-LL.B (Hons.) from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

During his tenure at LUMS, Ahmad actively engaged in various student-led societies, notably serving as the Director of the LUMS Entrepreneurial Society. Ahmad also contributed as a teaching assistant in courses such as Torts Law and Labor Law.

Before joining AJURIS, Ahmad taught Criminal Law and Legal Reasoning at a Law College in Multan. Ahmad has also conducted extensive research on the prisoners’ right to health care in the context of Covid-19 and the research was submitted to Lahore High Court, Multan Bench.

Ahmad’s primary areas of practice are constitutional and commercial disputes. He regularly assists the partners in the High Court on matters concerning constitutional law, company law and competition law.

Faaiza is an associate based in our Islamabad office and is practicing as an advocate of the Lower Courts of Pakistan. Faaiza entered legal practice in 2021 after completing her LL.B. (Hons.) degree at The Institute of Legal Studies (TILS) and attaining a Second Class (Upper Division). She was the recipient of the TILS Academic Excellence Award both in 2019 and 2020.

Faaiza rejoined the Firm in January 2024 after having interned here briefly in 2021. In the intervening period Faaiza worked as a judicial law clerk to a Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan for two years, contributing to several landmark judgments in the areas of civil and constitutional law. Furthermore, Faaiza served as a rapporteur at the 9th International Judicial Conference hosted by the Supreme Court in 2022, and the 2023 National Conference themed “Resilient Pakistan: Calibrating Population and Resources.” Subsequent to these conferences, she collaborated with her fellow rapporteurs to draft comprehensive reports, subsequently published under the banner of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan. Within our firm, Faaiza lends her expertise to a diverse array of legal matters, including arbitration, civil cases, and constitutional law in the High Court and the Lower Courts.

Zainab is an advocate of the High Courts. She is a Barrister-at-Law from Lincolns Inn, having been called to the Bar of England and Wales in the year 2015. She has a LLM in International Business Law. She has L.L.B (Hons.) from University of London, International Programmes.

After completing her legal studies Zainab worked in an immigration and personal injury law firm in London. She has also appeared before employment tribunals in London working as a trained volunteer of Free Representation Unit (FRU).

Zainab joined the firm in January, 2016. Zainab has been the lead associate assisting the former founding partner of the firm, Justice Babar Sattar, in all cases before the High Courts and Supreme Court of Pakistan. Zainab is now a Partner at firm’s Islamabad office.

Zainab has been regularly representing clients in constitutional, commercial, civil and arbitration matters. Zainab regularly appears before high courts, civil courts, special tribunals and a number of regulatory bodies including Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP).

Her litigation focuses primarily on constitutional, competition and public procurement disputes. Zainab also has experience in handling commercial arbitrations against and for governmental entities. Zainab represents a broad range of clients including multinationals, public and private sectors bodies, non-governmental organisations and private individuals.

She has notable experience of advisory, consultancy and legislative work. She has worked as external legal adviser for Careem Pakistan, Nestle Pakistan and others private and governmental entities. Her areas of interest in consultancy work include legislative framework, infrastructure development and compliance with regulatory frameworks.

As part of firm’s pro bono commitment, Zainab has represented many clients before the Islamabad High Court in pro bono cases involving human rights violations. Zainab has recently been notified by the Islamabad High Court on the Panel of Defense Counsel for conducting Jail Appeals. Zainab has also been notified as a member of the Pakistan Bar Council’s Journalist Defence Committee.

Asfandyar Khan

Asfandyar is an Associate Partner at the firm’s Islamabad office. Asfandyar graduated with a BA-LL.B. (Hons.), from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, where he received the National Management Foundation Gold Medal for topping his law cohort. Asfandyar was also selected as the sole recipient of the Podell Scholarship at the NYU School of Law, where he pursued an LL.M. focusing on securities law and capital markets.

At AJURIS, Asfandyar works on complex questions of constitutional and administrative law, while also contributing to the firm’s commercial disputes and tax practice. His assistance on landmark cases has been recognized by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (including on the successful challenge to the dissolution of the Parliament in April 2022), and by the Islamabad High Court (on the question of the constitutionality of certain prison rules applicable to Islamabad’s prisoners). He has also worked on High Court briefs involving sophisticated commercial transactions, such as the successful defense of the public procurement contracts pertaining to polycarbonate smart cards; the representation of a leading cellular telecom service provider in disputes pertaining to the allocation of telecom frequency spectrums; and the enforcement of arbitral awards won by working interest owners in the oil and gas industry. Asfandyar’s extensive litigation experience is relied upon by the firm’s clients for a variety of disputes, focusing on areas as diverse as competition law, FIDIC contracts, and food industry regulation.

Asfandyar frequently appears before the High Courts and specialized tribunals to represent the firm’s corporate clients. Despite his focus on litigation, he maintains a keen interest in academia, demonstrated by his appointments to adjunct faculty positions at law schools in Islamabad, and his publications on various legal issues.

Adeel Wahid

Adeel’s practice focuses on constitutional, commercial and complex civil litigation. He has represented clients from the telecom, textile, construction and pharmaceutical industries. He is an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan, and is licensed to practice in the State of New York, regularly arguing before the High Courts and specialized tribunals in Pakistan. 

Previously, Adeel worked as an associate at a New York law firm, Arnold & Porter, in the general litigation department. He represented clients under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and has assisted clients in subpoena compliance. He was also part of the team representing a pharmaceutical company in a multi-district litigation. In Pakistan, he has worked at another premier law firm based in Islamabad, assisting in constitutional and commercial litigation. 

Adeel holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School, and a BSc in Economics and Political Science from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). 

He has been a part Bahria University’s visiting faculty of law, teaching, among other courses, company law in Pakistan. Some of Adeel’s thoughts on law have been published in Dawn, The News International and Courting the Law.

Salaar is an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan, and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York. He holds a Masters in Law from Columbia Law School, where he served on the board of the Columbia International Arbitration Association, and a BA-LL.B. (Hons.) from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, where he was President of the student body.

He regularly appears in constitutional; commercial; and taxation matters before the High Courts, and has also been appointed amicus curiae by the Islamabad High Court. In addition to representing private persons, Salaar has also represented authorities such as the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the Frequency Allocation Board, and the National Commission for Human Rights.

Salaar joined AJURIS’s Islamabad office in 2020. Previously, he worked as an Associate to the Attorney-General for Pakistan where he assisted the Attorney-General in significant constitutional matters before the Supreme Court, as well as disputes before various international forums.

In addition to his litigation practice Salaar provides advisory and consultancy services to organisations such as the World Bank and the UNFPA, and has assisted with the drafting of laws and regulations for organisations such as the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority. He is also a part of the Legal Advisory Committee of the Public Interest Law Association of Pakistan, a mentor for the US-based Revive Labs, and a member of the Government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa’s Youth Development Commission.

He has also been a member of faculty for the University of London’s External LLB Program, where he has taught Public International Law; a self-designed seminar on the Pakistani legal system; and supervised final year dissertations.

Salaar writes columns on law and politics for The News, and regularly appears as a legal analyst on national and international media platforms such as BBC World.

Mr. Awan holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from Harvard Law School, USA and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from University of the Punjab where he stood first in the Punjab University Law College and was awarded Justice M. Jan Memorial gold medal for obtaining 1st position in Jurisprudence and Charles Earl Bevan Petman Law Prize for 1st position in Criminal Law.

Mr. Awan is a recipient of the Harvard Law School Dean’s Award for Leadership (2005). At Harvard Law, he was elected as the LLM Representative to Harvard Law School Council and he also served as the Vice President of Harvard Graduate Council.

Mr. Awan has the distinction of practicing law in four (4) jurisdictions i.e. USA, the UK, the UAE and Pakistan. He has worked with Shearman & Sterling LLP and Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in their capital markets, corporate finance, structured finance, projects & infrastructure finance as well as M&A and Private Equity groups. He has worked on multi-billion dollar transactions while representing the sponsors, lead arrangers, lead book-running managers and underwriters. Apart from his transactional experience, he has represented large multinational companies in both contentious matters before the courts in Pakistan. Mr. Awan has represented clients such as, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Citibank N.A, Lehman Brothers, Kuwait Investment Authority, Abu Dhabi Investment Council and Virgin Group of Companies in their various financing, private equity and capital markets transactions.

Currently, Mr. Awan regularly advises and represents clients on taxation, regulatory, commercial and constitutional matters in High Courts and the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He is admitted to the bar in the State of New York and is also an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Mr. Awan splits his time between Lahore and Islamabad Offices.
