Adeel’s practice focuses on constitutional, tax and commercial litigation.He has represented both local and foreign clients, in, among others, the petroleum, telecom and FMCG sectors in Pakistan, before multiple forums, such as the High Court, civil courts, and the specialized tribunals.
Starting his career as an associate in the general litigation department at the US law firm, Arnold & Porter, in their New York office, in 2018, Adeel was exposed, from the very on-set, to complex commercial disputes, spanning multi-districts while representing pharmaceutical companies. He was also extensively involved in Securities and Exchange Commissions (SEC) investigation against a multi-billion-dollar fund, alleged to be operating as a Ponzi-scheme, while representing the fund’s auditors.
In Pakistan, Adeel has represented petroleum and FMCG companies in their tax disputes with the tax regulators, before the High Court. He has advised the Government of Pakistan in recovery of money owed to it from private electricity-generating companies. He has also assisted the High Courts in constitutional matters, public procurement related laws, and has been engaged in litigation around enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.
Apart from litigating disputes, Adeel has rendered advice to private companies bidding for the development of Special Economic Zones. He has advised American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) in its employment related matters. He has drafted contracts for National Highway Authority (NHA) in regards to their concession agreements, and for housing societies seeking to merge with each other. He has also issued multiple opinions on compliance with tax laws, companies’ laws, and in relation to the telecom regulatory framework in Pakistan.
Adeel has previously taught at Bahria University, Islamabad, teaching among other courses, company law in Pakistan. Some of Adeel’s thoughts on law have been published in Dawn, The News International, Courting the Law, and the Journal of International Arbitration.
